How Much Does a Jet Card Cost? Rates, Fees and the Real Number

Costs and fees

A jet card costs its published hourly rate, where the provider publishes one, applied to every hour you are billed, plus what that rate leaves out: tax, fuel, fees, minimums and surcharges. Of the 13 providers we compare, as checked on 2026-10-04, the card rates we show run from $7,324 an hour (Sentient Jet, light jet; Provider-stated) to $16,905 (Fly Alliance, ultra-long-range; Provider-stated). Magellan Jets' two rate pages each give a lower 100-hour rate, but different ones, so we show neither.

Data last reviewed: Data version 2026.10 How we compare

Published rates: how to read the table

New to cards? Start with how jet cards work. The table on this page shows only rates that providers publish themselves, labelled "Primary source" or "Provider-stated", with the date we read them and whether the 7.5% federal excise tax is included.

Compare rows within one aircraft category. Rates found only in trade press appear separately as "Reported rate", named and dated, and never feed the calculator.

Of the providers we compare, 4 of 13 publish a card hourly rate on their own sites: Fly Alliance, Magellan Jets, Sentient Jet and Wheels Up. The rest show "Not published (checked 2026-09-25)", which, as our methodology puts it, "says nothing about whether the provider offers it; ask the provider". Some price another way: NetJets publishes a starting price per card, XO fixes each trip's price when you accept its quote, and Paramount Business Jets adds a management fee, set by tier, to the operator's cost.

What "starting at" means

Read a "starting at" rate as a floor, not a quote for your trip. Magellan Jets lists 25-hour rates "starting at" $7,500 an hour for its Light Category card up to $16,650 for its Gulfstream G450/G550 Premium card, without saying whether FET is included (Provider-stated, 2026-10-02; checked 2026-10-04). Its pages give different 50- and 100-hour rates, so we show none for those tiers until they agree.

Programs without a published hourly rate

We did not find an hourly rate in these providers’ public materials (checked September 25, 2026). That says nothing about their prices; ask the provider for a quote.

Rates not shown: the provider’s pages disagree

These programs have published rates, but the provider’s own pages give different figures (checked October 4, 2026), so we show none until they agree. Ask the provider for the current rate card in writing.

Fees: what can sit outside the hourly rate

Ask each provider for its full fee schedule in writing; the examples below are what providers publish (read 2026-09-25).

FeeWhat it isPublished examples
Initiation feeA one-time charge to joinJets.com and Paramount Business Jets say they charge none (Provider-stated). Magellan Jets' Explorer membership lists a "$16,500 Initial Investment" without saying whether it is a fee or flight funds (Provider-stated).
Annual or monthly feeA recurring charge to keep membership termsXO Membership: $995 a year (Provider-stated). Magellan Jets Explorer: $4,500 in annual dues (Provider-stated). Wheels Up Signature members "pay a small monthly fee" of unstated amount (Primary source, SEC filing).
Deposit or purchaseA deposit is a dollar balance drawn down per flight; a purchase buys a block of hours at a set rateXO: refundable minimum deposit of $100,000 (Provider-stated). Wheels Up: Funds from $200,000 for 12 months of access (Provider-stated). Jets.com: Flight Funds from $200,000 (Access Pass) or $400,000 (Access+) (Primary source).
ExpirationWhen unused hours or funds lapseNetJets: 24 months, then remaining hours end (Provider-stated). Sentient Jet: hours "never expire" (Provider-stated). Jets.com: hours never expire, but the balance "may be forfeited" if no hours are used in 24 consecutive months (Primary source).
Refund termsWhether, when and at what cost unused money comes backXO: deposits and unused funds "fully refundable within a 60-day period" (Provider-stated). flyExclusive: deposits "are non-refundable" (Primary source, SEC filing). Magellan Jets lists a "Refundable Investment" without stating refund terms (Provider-stated): ask for them in writing.

How a membership fee changes the rate you really pay

A fixed fee weighs more per hour the less you fly. To compare programs fairly, spread each year's fees over the hours you expect to fly and add the result to the rate: blended rate = hourly rate + (annual fees ÷ annual hours).

Hypothetical example, round numbers, not any provider's price: Card A charges $8,000 an hour and no fee; Card B charges $7,700 an hour plus a $5,000 annual fee.

Hours flown a yearCard A blended rateCard B blended rate
10$8,000$8,200
25$8,000$7,900
50$8,000$7,800

Card B's fee pays for itself at about 17 hours ($5,000 ÷ $300 saved per hour). Estimate your realistic hours first, because the structure that wins at 50 hours can lose at 10, and put minimum-time charges into the same sum.

From headline rate to effective cost

The effective hourly cost is what the invoice works out to per hour in the air. Taxes, contract add-ons and billing rules push it above the headline rate. Provider terms below were read on 2026-09-25.

Federal taxes

US law taxes the amount paid for taxable air transportation of persons at 7.5% (26 U.S.C. §4261(a)), the federal excise tax (FET). For 2026 the domestic segment tax is $5.30 per domestic segment (one takeoff and one landing), multiplied by the passengers on a chartered aircraft and not charged to or from rural airports; international flights beginning or ending in the US generally carry $23.40 per person (IRS Instructions for Form 720, rev. 06/2026).

Contract add-ons

  • Fuel surcharge. Fly Alliance, Magellan Jets and Jets.com say fuel is in the rate (Primary source). NetJets includes fuel up to a per-gallon cost set in the contract (Provider-stated); Wheels Up adds a surcharge on flights it operates when Jet A on the Argus US Jet Fuel Index tops $2.00 a gallon (Primary source, SEC filing).
  • Rate lock. Published periods during which the rate cannot change include 12 months at Sentient Jet and 24 months from deposit at flyExclusive (Provider-stated). Ask how renewal pricing is set, including any escalator, a clause raising rates by an index; see what rate-lock and fuel clauses cover.
  • Peak days. These are dates a provider lists as high-demand. Jets.com adds 10% to flight time on its peak days, while Fly Alliance's FAQ states "no peak-day surcharge" (Primary source, 2026-09-25). More in how peak days affect fees.
  • Repositioning. This is flying an empty aircraft to or from your trip. NetJets charges no ferry fees inside its service area, the contiguous US and select Canadian cities (Provider-stated); Wheels Up lists positioning among charges outside the contiguous US (Primary source).
  • De-icing and international handling. Fly Alliance bills both at cost; Jets.com includes de-icing and adds 25% on eligible international flights (Primary source). More in jet card pass-through fees such as de-icing.

Billing rules

Taxi time is ground time added to each billed flight: Wheels Up adds 6 minutes to each takeoff and each landing, while Jets.com bills takeoff to touchdown only (Primary source). A daily minimum is the least time billed on a flying day; Nicholas Air's is 1 hour including taxi (Primary source).

Two worked examples (hypothetical)

These are hypothetical estimates with round numbers, not any provider's price. Assumptions for both: base rate $8,000 an hour; fuel surcharge $500 an hour of billed time; 12 minutes (0.2 hours) of taxi billed per flight; 7.5% FET on the whole flight charge; $5.30 segment tax per passenger; no fees and no repositioning.

A: 90-minute flight, 4 passengers, ordinary dayB: 30-minute flight, 2 passengers, peak day with a 10% surcharge on the base rate, 1.5-hour daily minimum
Billed time1.5 + 0.2 = 1.7 hours0.7 hours, raised to the 1.5-hour minimum
Base$13,600$12,000
Peak surchargenone$1,200
Fuel surcharge$850$750
FET at 7.5%$1,083.75$1,046.25
Segment tax$21.20$10.60
Total$15,554.95$15,006.85
Per hour in the air$10,370, about 30% above the headline$30,014, about 3.75 times the headline

What 25 purchased hours actually deliver

Card hours are debited as billed time, which can run longer than time in the air. The round-number examples below are hypothetical; provider terms were read on 2026-09-25.

  • Taxi time. Magellan Jets quotes estimated flight time plus 6 minutes before takeoff and 6 after landing (Provider-stated). At 12 minutes a flight, twenty one-hour flights would use 24 of your 25 hours.
  • Daily minimums. Under a 1-hour daily minimum such as Nicholas Air's (Primary source), a lone 30-minute flight uses a full hour, so 25 such days would use the whole card for 12.5 hours in the air. Magellan Jets lists no short-leg waivers at 25 hours, four at 50 and eight at 100 (Provider-stated).
  • Round trips and one-ways. Round-trip discounts lower the cost of qualifying trips: up to 15% at Sentient Jet, and 10%, 15% or 20% by tier at Magellan Jets (Provider-stated). Where repositioning is charged, you also pay for flying you are not on.

Estimate your own effective cost

The calculator applies each program's published terms to your inputs: hours a year, typical flight length, category, share of peak-day flights, region and block size. It adds FET (switchable), published fuel surcharges, fees spread over your hours, weighted peak surcharges, daily minimums and taxi time, labelling each addition.

Where a component is unpublished, the result reads "at least" that figure and lists the exclusions. It leaves out segment and international taxes, repositioning, de-icing, cancellations and any discounts, never uses reported rates, and lists programs without a published rate as "quote required". Every result is an estimate from published terms as of the date shown: your contract governs.

Assumptions and what this calculator leaves out
  • Only rates a provider publishes (primary source or provider-stated) are used. Reported rates are listed for reference and never used. Where pricing is dynamic or capped-dynamic, no estimate is computed.
  • Added to the published rate, each with its label: a published fuel surcharge; initiation fees spread over the hours you buy per purchase and annual fees over your hours a year; the peak-day surcharge weighted by your share of peak-day flights; the daily-minimum effect when your typical flight is shorter than the minimum (one flight a day assumed); taxi time where the provider bills it per leg; then the 7.5% federal excise tax on those flight charges when the published rate excludes it and you include it.
  • Left out: per-segment fees and cases the statute treats differently (26 U.S.C. §4261, as cited on this page); repositioning charges; de-icing; cancellation charges; catering, international handling and other charges billed separately; any change to terms after the date shown.
  • Published discounts (for example round-trip or long-leg savings) are not applied. Each estimate is before any discount and before the items it lists as excluded.
  • When a component is not published, the result reads "at least" and lists what it excludes. Those results are never sorted against complete estimates.

3 estimates for Midsize · US/Canada

An estimate marked "at least" is a floor: a fee the provider does not publish is missing from it, so the real cost is higher. Complete estimates include every fee the provider publishes.

What a lower rate can trade away

A lower headline rate is not a better card on its own. These examples from the published terms we compare show what can sit behind one.

  • A bigger prepayment. Wheels Up's fixed light-jet rate falls from $9,295 on a $200,000 Fund, its prepaid balance, to $8,695 on $1 million (Provider-stated, 2026-09-25). More of your money then sits with the seller, so check how prepaid funds are protected.
  • Price certainty. Wheels Up's dynamic plan shows $9,088 an hour for a light jet against $9,295 on its fixed plan, but the dynamic figure is a three-month average less a Fund discount, and dynamic rates vary by flight (Provider-stated, 2026-09-25).
  • What the rate covers. Sentient Jet's $7,324 light-jet rate adds a fuel surcharge of unstated amount and FET (Provider-stated, 2026-09-25). Fly Alliance's $7,650 light-jet rate includes fuel, with FET extra (Provider-stated, 2026-09-25; inclusions: Primary source).

Editorial view

PJReviews’ opinion, written from the labelled facts on this page.

Treat the hourly rate as an input, not an answer. The figure worth comparing is what your own year of flying would cost under each program's full terms: your hours, your leg lengths, your share of peak-day travel.

On that basis a higher rate with fewer add-ons can come out ahead, and a fee can be worth paying if you fly enough to spread it. Where no rate is published, get a written quote for a sample of your real trips, with the agreement, and run the same arithmetic.

What to confirm before you buy

  • The current rate card for your aircraft category, with its date, and whether FET and fuel are included.
  • How the fuel surcharge is calculated, which index it follows and whether it is capped.
  • The daily minimum, any short-leg charge and how taxi time is billed.
  • Where the no-repositioning area ends, and how one-way and out-of-area positioning is charged.
  • This year's peak-day calendar, the surcharge and the notice required on those days.
  • Every fee in writing, and whether a deposit is flight funds or a fee.
  • How long the rate is locked and how it is set at renewal, including any index-linked escalator.
  • When unused hours or funds expire, what a refund costs, and the cancellation charges on and off peak days.

Jet card cost questions

How much does a jet card cost?

Work from the formula: hourly rate × billed hours (flight time plus taxi, never less than the daily minimum), plus fuel and peak surcharges, fees spread over your hours, and FET and segment taxes where the rate excludes them.

How much does a 25-hour jet card cost?

Sentient Jet's 25-hour light-jet card is $183,100 before fuel surcharge and tax (Provider-stated, 2026-09-25). NetJets states: "Solutions begin at $215,000 for a jet card with 275 days of annual access" (Primary source, NetJets FAQ, read 2026-09-25). It describes buying hours 25 at a time and does not say which aircraft that price buys. Check you can buy one: SherpaReport reported on 2026-08-06 that NetJets "has paused all new sales of its 25-hour jet cards and its 25-hour per year leases", a change NetJets' own card and pricing pages did not mention when we checked on 2026-09-25; see our NetJets page.

How much does a 50-hour jet card cost?

Magellan Jets sells 50-hour tiers, but its pages give different 50-hour rates, so we show none until they agree; ask for the current rate card in writing. Its 25-hour Light Category card starts at $7,500 an hour (Provider-stated, 2026-10-02; checked 2026-10-04); at that rate 25 hours come to $187,500 (Estimate: 25 × $7,500), before FET, which Magellan does not say is included, any short-leg charge or round-trip savings.

Who has the cheapest jet card?

We do not rank programs, and headline rates are not like-for-like. Of the providers we compare, 4 of 13 publish a card hourly rate; as checked on 2026-10-04, the lowest we show is Sentient Jet's $7,324 for a light jet (Provider-stated), which excludes a fuel surcharge of unstated amount and FET. Magellan Jets' rate pages each give a lower 100-hour starting rate but disagree on it, so we show none; compare programs in the calculator or the comparison.

How does a jet card's cost compare with owning or chartering?

It depends on how many hours you fly, how much capital you want tied up and how easily you want to exit. Our guide to jet cards vs fractional ownership sets cards, fractional shares, whole-aircraft ownership and charter side by side.
