Oxnard, California helicopter and fixed-wing operator with Merlin IIIB charter
Aspen Helicopters, Inc. is an aviation company based at Oxnard Airport in Ventura County, California. According to its website, it was formed in 1980 with two leased helicopters and now serves government agencies, companies, the farming community and private customers. It describes itself as a Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business.
Charter is one part of a wider utility operation. For executive travel the company offers a Fairchild Merlin IIIB twin turboprop with a leather interior for business or personal trips within the United States; the site notes a daily minimum of three flight hours may apply. Its other work includes aerial firefighting and external-load helicopter operations across the US and Alaska, LIDAR mapping and aerial survey (including more than twenty years of marine mammal surveys), and agricultural aerial application.
The company reports a fleet of ten Bell helicopters, eight Partenavia P68 twin-engine airplanes and the Merlin IIIB. Types named on its site include the Bell 407, Bell 212 and Bell 206L LongRanger. It also runs an FAA Part 145 repair station at its Oxnard main office and holds an STC for a photogrammetry hatch on the Bell 206L.
Aspen has two sites on the airport: the main office and helicopter base at 2899 West Fifth Street, and the Oxnard Jet Center at 1801 West Fifth Street, which handles fixed-wing maintenance and flights. It does not offer flight instruction.
For private flyers it is mainly relevant for turboprop charter out of Ventura County rather than jet travel.
