Helicopter aerial work, external cargo, SAR and firefighting operator in the Pyrenees
Helitrans Pyrinees S.L. is a Spanish helicopter operator. Pilot Haritz Galarraga Gortázar founded it in 2006. The head office is in La Seu d'Urgell in the Lleida Pyrenees, and the company also has facilities at Sabadell Airport and at Panticosa in the Aragonese Pyrenees. An independent helicopter database lists its base as Andorra-La Seu d'Urgell Airport (LESU).
The company's main specialism is external cargo (sling load) work in high mountains. This includes carrying construction materials and supplying mountain refuges in the Pyrenees and the Picos de Europa. It also inspects power lines for energy companies, films sporting events such as cycling races, regattas and MotoGP for TV, and takes on film and photography work.
Helitrans Pyrinees also flies forest firefighting and search and rescue (SAR) missions. Its firefighting work covers Spain, and Chile during the European winter. In 2021 it took delivery of its first Bell 429 twin-engine helicopter for SAR and firefighting under a public contract with the Catalan government's firefighting service.
The company operates its own aircraft. The fleet page lists the AS350 B3/H125, AS355 N and EC135, and the twin-engine types are used where rules for flights over congested areas require them. The company has its own Part 145 maintenance shop and a CAMO engineering office that manages maintenance and airworthiness for the fleet. It also runs a pilot training school.
Flyers should note that this is mainly an aerial work and special-missions operator, not a passenger charter business. Anyone wanting a passenger transfer should ask the company directly whether it is available.
