Kenyan fixed-wing and helicopter operator with charter, medevac and contract flying
Aberdair Aviation is an African aviation group that was incorporated in Kenya in 2002. Its roots go back to Autair Helicopters East Africa, which Freddie Wilcox started in Nairobi in the late 1960s. Freddie and his son Adrian Wilcox set up Aberdair.
The company operates its own fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. Kenya issued its air operator certificate in May 2006, and helicopter operations were added in 2011. It also runs an AOC operation in Ghana, at Kotoka International Airport in Accra, and has an office in Dubai. Its main Kenyan base is Wilson Airport in Nairobi, where it has its own maintenance facility. It also has a base in Nanyuki, close to Laikipia's ranches and conservancies.
Private flyers can book charter flights for tourism and VIP travel, aerial photography and filming, and urgent cargo. The group also flies medical and emergency evacuations, aerial firefighting and airborne survey missions.
Much of its flying is long-term contract work, often on an aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI) basis. Clients include resource companies, humanitarian and peacekeeping agencies, and government bodies. Its website lists the Embraer EMB-110 Bandeirante as the first aircraft on its Kenyan AOC, but gives no current fleet list.
