Danish charter airline flying Dornier 328JETs from Billund across Europe
SUN-AIR of Scandinavia is a Danish airline headquartered in Billund and based at Billund Airport. Niels Sundberg founded it in 1978 as an air taxi and charter operator, and it remains family-owned within the Sundberg Aviation Group, with Kristoffer Sundberg as CEO since 2017.
From 1996 the company flew scheduled routes as a British Airways franchise partner, the first regional airline outside the UK to sign such an agreement. It ended its last scheduled route, Billund to London City, in March 2025 and now concentrates on charter flights, air taxi work, specialist aerial work and aircraft brokerage.
SUN-AIR operates its own aircraft. Wikipedia lists a fleet of 11 Dornier 328JETs with about 32 seats each as of July 2026, which suits group charters such as sports teams, touring artists and corporate travel within Denmark and across Europe.
Sister businesses in the same group include JOINJET for business jet charter, SmuuthCare for air ambulance flights and SUN-AIR Technic, formed in 2016, for maintenance. JOINJET was set up in 2009 to run the group's business jet charter division. Flyers wanting a smaller business jet may be directed to JOINJET rather than SUN-AIR itself.
