Congolese Embraer regional airline offering domestic flights and charters across the DRC
SJL Aeronáutica Congo is the Democratic Republic of the Congo arm of SJL Aeronáutica, an Angolan carrier that its own website said had flown commercial services in Angola since 2005. The Congolese company was incorporated in February 2020 and began advertising flights from Kinshasa in mid-2021, according to an investigation published by Actualite.cd in December 2023.
The company is primarily a regional airline rather than a private jet operator. Its archived website described scheduled domestic flights alongside chartered and international charter flights, and listed published one-way fares on routes such as Kinshasa to Lubumbashi. Congolese government officials have frequently used its aircraft for provincial trips, according to the same press report.
The fleet shown on the company's website consisted of Embraer regional jets: one ERJ 145 (D2-FIC) and two ERJ 135s (D2-FIA and D2-FIB). In March 2023 the ERJ 135 D2-FIA overran the runway on landing at Lubumbashi; all 33 people on board evacuated, but the aircraft was substantially damaged, as reported by aviation24.be.
Operations are run from Kinshasa N'Djili International Airport, where the company listed its sales desk in the domestic departures building. Destinations advertised included Lubumbashi, Goma, Bunia, Kalemie, Kananga, Kindu, Kisangani, Kolwezi, Mbandaka, Mbuji-Mayi, Gbadolite, Gemena and Bukavu. This listing refers to its Lubumbashi presence.
Flyers considering a charter should confirm current operating status and aircraft availability directly, as the company's website is offline and recent public information is limited.
