Passenger and cargo charter airline based in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories
Summit Air is a charter airline based at Yellowknife Airport in the Northwest Territories, Canada. It has been part of the Ledcor Group since Ledcor bought it in 2009, and Ledcor says Summit has operated from Yellowknife for more than twenty years.
The company operates its own aircraft for passenger and cargo charter. Its clients include mining and exploration companies, government agencies, environmental organisations, survey parties and tour operators. It has also launched a twice-weekly freight service from Yellowknife to the Sahtu region of the Mackenzie Valley.
Summit describes its fleet as large and varied. Its fleet has included ATR turboprops, among them an ATR 72 freighter with a large cargo door added in 2016, along with Dornier 228 aircraft. Ledcor says Summit can deliver cargo loads of up to 18,000 lbs.
Summit works through several partnerships with northern communities and organisations, including joint ventures in the Kivalliq, Baffin and Kitikmeot regions of Nunavut. A sister company, Summit Helicopters, provides rotary-wing services in British Columbia and the Northwest Territories.
The operator is best suited to group, industrial and cargo charter in northern Canada rather than small business jet trips.
