Helicopter charter and utility flying from Whitehorse, Atlin and Dawson, Yukon
Horizon Helicopters is a helicopter operator headquartered in Whitehorse, Yukon, with additional bases listed in Atlin, British Columbia, and Dawson, Yukon.
Most of its work is commercial utility flying. Its website lists mineral exploration support (drill moves, camp set-up and removal, staking and seismic work), wildfire suppression in Alberta, British Columbia and the Yukon, environmental monitoring, and wildlife surveys and captures. It also offers charter flights for passengers and equipment, and heliskiing in partnership with Yukon Heliski.
The company describes itself as the preferred search and rescue provider for Parks Canada in the Yukon, using an external cargo system for high-mountain rescues, and says it is the only Yukon operator with night vision goggle capability.
The fleet is made up of Airbus helicopters: AS350 AStars, which form a large part of the fleet and carry ski baskets, an AS350 B3e used for high-altitude rescue work, and EC120s used for animal survey flying.
For private flyers, Horizon is best suited to remote-area access in the Yukon and northern British Columbia rather than city-to-city transfers.
