Yukon airline in Whitehorse offering passenger, cargo and charter flights
Air North, Yukon's Airline, is a Canadian airline headquartered in Whitehorse, Yukon, with its main base at Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport. It was founded in 1977 and operates as Air North Charter and Training Ltd.
It is mainly a scheduled carrier. It connects Whitehorse with Vancouver, Kelowna, Victoria, Kamloops, Calgary, Edmonton, Yellowknife, Inuvik, Dawson City and Old Crow, and has seasonal service to Ottawa and Toronto.
Air North also runs a charter department. Its website advertises charter and private flights, group travel and cargo. Independent reference sources say it flies passenger, combi, cargo and fuel-haul charters across North America, with regular customers that include mining companies, cruise tour operators, fishing lodges and sports teams.
The fleet of about 11 aircraft is made up of ATR 42 turboprops and Boeing 737-400, 737-500 and 737-800 jets. The president and CEO, Joseph Sparling, holds a majority stake. The Vuntut Development Corporation, part of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation, holds a large minority share.
Because the aircraft are regional airliners, Air North charters suit groups, crews and freight more than small parties wanting a business jet.
