Northern Canadian helicopter operator headquartered in Yellowknife, NWT
Great Slave Helicopters is a helicopter operator with its head office in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. The company says it has operated since 1984.
It has operational bases across the Northwest Territories, Yukon, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. The Yellowknife head office has more than 8,000 square feet of hangar space, plus storage and a paint booth.
The fleet is made up of single- and twin-engine turbine helicopters. The website does not list individual models.
Its work is mainly industrial and government charter: drill moves, seismic and geophysical surveys, utility work, forestry, Class D external-load operations and logistics support for remote sites. Clients come from both the public and private sectors.
Ownership has changed over the years. It was previously part of Discovery Air, which went into creditor protection in 2018, and local press later reported a sale. Because the bases are spread over several provinces and territories, flyers should ask which base will handle their job.
