First Nations-owned Saskatchewan airline offering charter, cargo and scheduled flights
Rise Air is a Saskatchewan airline that serves communities, industry and government across the north of the province. It was formed in 2021 when West Wind Aviation and Transwest Air, which West Wind had bought in 2016, combined their operations under a single brand. The company traces its roots back to 1955.
The airline describes itself as 100 per cent Indigenous owned. A 2021 regional profile reported that Athabasca Basin Development holds 75 per cent and the Prince Albert Development Corporation holds 25 per cent.
Alongside its scheduled passenger network, Rise Air offers corporate and group charters, workforce transportation for crew changes and camp rotations, and cargo. The 2021 profile also listed medevac flights among its services and said these operations run year round.
Its booking network covers Saskatoon, Prince Albert, La Ronge, Points North, Stony Rapids, Fond du Lac, Uranium City and Wollaston. The fleet includes ATR 72 turboprops and fixed-wing aircraft that can operate on wheels, floats or skis.
For private flyers, Rise Air is mainly relevant for group, corporate and industrial charters within Saskatchewan and to remote northern airstrips rather than for business-jet travel.
