Helicopter tours, utility and firefighting flights from Penticton and Cranbrook, BC
Eclipse Helicopters Ltd is a helicopter operator in British Columbia, Canada. It was founded in Penticton in 1993 and has its head office at Penticton Regional Airport (CYYF). It also runs a second base at Canadian Rockies International Airport in Cranbrook, which opened in 2015.
Most of its flying is commercial helicopter work rather than executive transport. The company lists fire suppression, utility and construction support, search and rescue, heli-skiing and mountain flying, crop drying and training. It also offers sightseeing flights over the South Okanagan and East Kootenay, including wine-country tours. A 2017 business profile also mentions medical transport and backcountry access flights.
The only aircraft type the company names is the Airbus (Eurocopter) AS350 AStar, a single-engine light helicopter. Its sightseeing flights carry up to five passengers. The company says its pilots average more than 12,000 flight hours. A sister company, ELT Aviation, keeps a fixed-wing aircraft at Cranbrook, and the group also runs an FBO under the Eclipse Aviation name.
Derek Robinson bought the business in 2014, according to the same 2017 profile. Flyers who need short helicopter transfers or charters in the Okanagan or East Kootenay should ask about availability directly, because fire-season contracts can tie up aircraft in summer.
