Gwich'in-owned contract helicopter services from Inuvik, Northwest Territories
Gwich'in Helicopters is a contract helicopter company based in Inuvik, Northwest Territories, that works in the Gwich'in Settlement Area. It was formed in 2004 as a joint-venture partnership in which the Gwich'in Development Corporation holds 51% and Great Slave Helicopters is the minority partner.
All flight operations are carried out by Great Slave Helicopters, which runs the same model with other Indigenous-majority partnerships in the territory. Bookings and project enquiries go through Great Slave Helicopters.
The partnership owns a BK 117 850 D2 twin-engine helicopter and has a hangar and office complex next to Inuvik's Mike Zubko Airport. It lists infrastructure planning and development, wildlife surveys, search and rescue, mineral exploration and oil and gas work as the types of missions it supports.
Federal and territorial contract records name Great Slave Helicopters in connection with Gwich'in Helicopters for government fieldwork in the region. The company is aimed at project and contract flying rather than private passenger travel, so flyers should discuss aircraft availability, timing and locations directly.
