BC and Alberta helicopter operator since 1975: charter, utility work and Jasper tours
Yellowhead Helicopters Ltd. is a privately owned Canadian helicopter operator. It began in 1975 in Valemount, British Columbia, when founder Garry Forman bought a Bell 206 JetRanger, and it marked its 50th anniversary in 2025. Corporate offices remain in Valemount, while the operations centre is in Prince George.
The company holds Transport Canada Air Operator Certificate No. 5075 and operates under the aerial work and air taxi rules (CARs 702 and 703), with approval to carry dangerous goods. Its operations are limited to day VFR.
Most of its work supports industry and government: forestry, wildfire support, mineral exploration, oil and gas and seismic work, utilities, heli-skiing, surveys, filming and emergency services. The Hinton, Alberta base also sells scenic flights over the Jasper area of 12, 30 or 60 minutes, plus custom flights.
The fleet is listed at around 41 to 42 helicopters, made up of Airbus AS350 AStars, Bell 206 JetRangers, Bell 212s and BK117s. It operates from 13 bases, including Prince George, Fort St. John, Terrace, Valemount, Blue River and Hinton.
In 2012 the company bought Vancouver Island Helicopters' Prince George base, aircraft and contracts, then moved its operations centre there.
