Indigenous-owned Labrador airline with Twin Otter charter, cargo and helicopter services
Air Borealis is a regional airline based in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador. It was formed in June 2017 by merging Innu Mikun Airlines and Air Labrador, as a partnership between PAL Airlines, Innu Development Limited Partnership and the Nunatsiavut Group of Companies, and describes itself as Indigenous-owned.
The airline flies scheduled passenger services to communities on the North Coast of Labrador and carries cargo across the region. It also runs a charter division serving the Labrador coast and northern Quebec, with experience in off-strip and float operations, and added a rotary-wing division offering helicopter charter throughout Labrador in 2020.
Its fixed-wing fleet consists of de Havilland Canada DHC-6-300 Twin Otters, a type suited to short and unpaved strips, with Goose Bay serving as the base for maintenance, dispatch and management. Air Borealis operates its own aircraft rather than arranging flights through third parties.
For private flyers, Air Borealis is mainly relevant for charters and freight into remote Labrador and northern Quebec communities rather than business jet travel. Charter requests are handled through a dedicated charter line listed on its website.
