Bell helicopter charter and turbine flight training from Gimli, Manitoba
Prairie Helicopters Inc. is a helicopter charter operator with its head office and main hangar at Gimli airport, about 80 km north of Winnipeg, Manitoba. It also runs what it describes as the province's only turbine helicopter flight school.
Its main business is charter flying across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, northwestern Ontario and Nunavut. The company also offers seasonal fall-colour sightseeing flights alongside its charter and training work.
According to its website, the fleet is made up of Bell helicopters: the single-engine Bell 206B/B3, 206L3 and 407, the twin-engine Bell 427 and the medium twin Bell 212. This gives clients options from small light singles to a larger twin for heavier loads or more passengers.
A 2013 trade-press report said Prairie Helicopters had acquired Hudson Bay Helicopters in Churchill, Manitoba, adding Churchill to its bases at Gimli and The Pas. Flyers should confirm which bases are still active when planning flights in northern Manitoba.
