Indigenous-owned helicopter company in Fort Simpson and Fort Liard, NWT
Dehcho Regional Helicopters (DRH) is a helicopter company in the Dehcho region of the Northwest Territories, Canada. Partner Great Slave Helicopters describes it as wholly Indigenous-owned, with an ownership group made up of the investment arms of seven First Nations and Metis groups in the Nahendeh area, including Liidlii Kue First Nation and the Fort Simpson Metis Local 52.
DRH does not fly its own operation. Great Slave Helicopters, its partner since 2004, conducts all flight operations for the company. DRH owns one Eurocopter AS350 B2 helicopter, registered with the letters DCV.
Work is run mainly from two regional bases, Fort Simpson and Fort Liard. Listed services cover helicopter support for infrastructure planning and development, wildlife surveys, search and rescue, and mineral exploration and mining on Dehcho traditional lands. The company has also held a forest fire suppression and support contract with the territorial Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
The NWT Chamber of Commerce named DRH its Business of the Year in 2010. The company is oriented to commercial, government and resource-sector charter work in the territory rather than executive passenger travel.
