Turboprop and piston aircraft charter, aerial work and firefighting from Scone, NSW
Pay's Air Service is an aviation business in Scone, in the Upper Hunter region of New South Wales. It works from 160 Satur Road and also lists an office in Albury. Colin Pay founded the business in 1959. Today the group's main work is aerial firefighting, with charter flying, warbird restoration, warbird and scenic flights, aircraft maintenance and a paint shop alongside it.
The charter side started in 2010 with one full-time pilot and a twin Cessna 310. The company says it can fly passengers or freight anywhere in Australia at short notice. Its clients include local businesses, the mining and horse racing industries, state medical contractors and government agencies.
Pay's flies its own aircraft rather than booking third-party operators. Its charter page lists a 14-seat turbine Cessna 208B Grand Caravan, a six-seat twin-engine Piper Aztec and several single-engine piston aircraft that take 3 to 5 passengers. The site's history section says a Beechcraft King Air was added at some point. The fleet is all turboprop and piston aircraft, with no business jets, which suits short regional trips and flights to rough or short airstrips.
Besides passenger charter, the company does aerial work. This includes fire spotting and air attack coordination under contract to the NSW Rural Fire Service and Victoria's Country Fire Authority, plus aerial photography. The company says it holds ISO 9001 quality, AS 4801 health and safety, and ISO 14001 environmental management certifications. It does not list any charter-specific safety audits such as ARGUS, Wyvern or IS-BAO.
