Canberra-based turboprop charter operator serving eastern and southern Australia
Corporate Air is an Australian air charter operator based at Canberra Airport. Canberra interests founded it in 1972. It started as a flying school with a small charter business and bought its first turboprop in 1989.
The company runs its own aircraft under an Airline Air Operator's Certificate issued by Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), covering domestic and international flights. It is an operator, not a broker. Its charter work includes corporate and business flights, fly-in fly-out (FIFO) services for mining and exploration clients, group charters for government, convention and sporting organisations, and overnight freight. The company also lists airborne remote sensing, search and rescue, and outback tour flights.
The fleet is all turboprops. The company says it flies 16 aircraft, including a sizeable group of Saab 340B+WTs, plus Fairchild Metro 23 and King Air B200/B250 types. Flyers looking for jet cabins or long-range jets will need to look elsewhere.
It has bases in Brisbane, Sydney, Goulburn, Canberra and Melbourne, and flies mainly in eastern and southern Australia. Its CASA-approved heavy maintenance facility at Goulburn, NSW, services its own fleet and some outside clients. It also offers aircraft management and FBO and ground handling at Brisbane and Canberra.
On safety, the company cites the Flight Safety Foundation's BARS Gold standard, a scheme used for audits in the resources sector. Flyers should ask for current audit details when they request a quote.
